I want a woody on rye (hold the mayo)

There puttin' wood in our food now. Well not exactly. Cellulose the stuff wood is made of is being extracted, purified and used as an extender, additive and suppliment in variious food products. Wood has a lot of nasty stuff in like tree resins, oils, waxs and subtances.  It can be quite toxic. Cellulose is as different from wood as sugar is from srtawberries, (some people react badly to stawberries.)
Why? Its cheep! It's low calorie, like none. It is not fat but it holds moisture and gives a rich texture to foods.
When I saw a notice about this on facebook with the headline, "Their putting wood in our food",  it contained much of the infomration contained here, and the admonishment to check the ingrediants in food you buy and listed some of the products that contains cellulose:

Cellulose repalces fat, adds fibers, no caloires. retains moisture, and gives food many of the qaulities people are asking for these days.
Lets get this clear, no one is coming into my house and dumping wood chips into my food. When I buy food it has doesn't have cellulose in it, or more likely it does, I don't always check the lables. Or if there isn't a label, potatoes, apples, cornchips, etc, the celulose is there in large quanity. Plant cells are 30 % ceulose to start with
If it does have a lable read it carefully, reguritated wood is the often the least disconcerting thing on the list. If you don't know what those things on the list are then maybe think about buying something friendlier.

fun demented

In science we learn that things must be studied, measurements taken, experiments repeated, facts checked and rechecked, and proofs verified by independent researchers before someone can claim to "know" something is true.  In church we learn that a person can stand up before a large audience and make the most outrageous claims with no proof other than "it was written in a book two thousand years ago".  Or no proof at all!  Maybe a "God told me so."

Most scientist tend to agree on the major tenents and that rational discussion leads to logical conclusions and consences about what is true and what is myth.  Science for the most part is agreed on by scientists.  There is one science.

Conversely there are thousands of religions and more being created each day.

To Many Questions

It is gratifying that so many people out there know the truth.  They have common sense and are very, very well informed.  They are aware of what is going on and have solutions to all of today’s most pressing problems.  They can easily point out the past mistakes.  The corruption and injustice rampant in the US and through out the world has been uncovered by their diligent investigations.

What I find so had to understand is why things continue go bad.  Why do the wrong people keep getting elected?  How is it that people’s rights are not being respected?   Important issues are ignored and attention is given to trivial problems.  The media can not be trusted.

There is so much information available, on this site and on hundreds of other sites, and the truth is so obvious.  Even a child could do better that those who are making the important decisions.  Why is all this going on?  Why doesn’t someone, anyone, come forward with the answers we need and lead the country and the world out of this quagmire?  Answers, we need answers.

This statement gleaned from the internet sums it up nicely

Where is the journalist who is willing to at least take the risk of open-mindedly exploring the real facts and effects of energy resources and power production, so that policymakers can no longer get by creating facts to fit their agenda?

 To FDA,

As a consumer who is very concerned about food saftey, cost, availlabillity, better nurtriton and acurate labeling, I feel it is important for the FDA to quickly establish voluntary guide lines for the labeling of both GMO and non-GMO foods.

I understand peoples concern about GMO saftey and respect their right to know what is in their food.  As it stands now several states and counties are trying to establish their own guide lines and regulations.  If this happens there will be a mish-mash of laws across the country making it hard for producers to comply, hard for the consumer to understand and generally causing confusion instead of clarity.

My own personal veiw of GMOs, having read arguments on both sides is that they will help feed a hungry world and are generally safe.
